Day177 - Beauty in the mist

A man and his three dogs
take a daily stroll down a
country lane and back.
We felt a bit desperate to shake out the cobwebs and take a walk today. The problem is, as we took the train back to Moreton in Marsh the other day, we noticed that most of the fields were pretty water logged. We decided to do a walk we've done before, only in reverse.

From this sign, you'd
think you were about to
hit rush hour of
everything except cars!
It was an overcast day, very misty. But in our absence the leaves on the bushes had started to burst and many flowering trees were in bloom. We even spotted several magnolias just waiting for the next sunny day to burst open (that will probably happen next week.)

Let the rain just try to dampen the spirit of these beauties!
The grey day actually seemed to make the daffodils that were everywhere even more brilliant.

As often happens on these walks, we came across something rather unusual: a man was set up at the side of one of the more major roads chainsaw carving wood into a bird. He had several other carvings set up on the verge, and more in his truck that was parked nearby. He seemed quite intent on his work, so didn't really notice us.

Have chainsaw, will create
roadside art.
This got me looking into who the gentleman might have been. But my research found quite a few people who do this type of work in the area. It's no surprise that in the Cotswolds there's even a festival devoted to this type of sculpture and other "living landscape" artforms.

"No pictures please. We're baaaa-shful."
We also got to see some spring lambs...finally! At first we hadn't notice them as they were tucked up against a barn. But I had stopped to take a photo of a sheep near a bunch of daffodils. The sheep took off noisily, which started all the other adult sheep baaing. Suddenly, we could hear the high-pitched bleats of the babies as they came running toward their mothers. Too cute!
Don't you just want to take a seat and read a book with a nice thermos of tea beside you?!
