Day 150 - Just sitting

There's a great episode in Seinfeld where Jerry and Elaine are getting on a plane after their previous flight was cancelled. On the new flight, two seats our available: one in first class and one in coach. Jerry says he'll take the first class seat.

When Elaine objects, he asks, "Have you ever flown first class?"

"No," she replies.

"All right then. See? You won't know what you're missing. I've flown first class, Elaine -- I can't go back to coach. I can't... I won't... ."

"See, they put the fudge on the bottom!"
So, why am I telling you this? It's because it is how I feel about the weather here. I have seen spring. Even with the recent snowfall, the birds are chirping away outside my window. Pansies and crocuses are poking through snow piles. While I should be back in Canada, waiting another two or three months for spring to arrive, I have experienced spring in February. I can't go back to winter now that I know what is possible.

For that reason, today I closed all the curtains in the flat, shut the door to the lounge, turned on the heater/fireplace and nestled under my warm blanket on the sofa to watch TV all day. I just have to avoid venturing out into the hallway leading to our bedroom and bathroom. Despite our best efforts, the flat's heating system can't keep up with anything colder than about 4 degrees C. When you enter the hall, you hit a wall of ice cold air. Brrrrrrr!

When I next look outside my window. it will be spring again ... damn it!!
