Day 152 - "And the Oscar goes to ... "

Source: digital spy dot com
We're mad about movies. It's obviously genetic, because our kids are mad about movies too. And if I ask my Mom if she wants to go to a see a movie, she always says, "Yes." Of course, that could actually have more to do with her popcorn addiction, which is probably the worst I have ever witnessed in a person.

We're so mad about movies that we also don't miss Oscar night on TV. Oscar night is a family event in our home. Seriously. It's up there with Thanksgiving (where we give thanks for movies) and Christmas (when we all inevitably get Cineplex gift cards).

So, what do you do when you are five hours ahead of Toronto time and your kids have arranged their own Oscar party complete with Oscar-themed menu? You sign-up for the only UK-based live stream of the event, you hook your laptop up to the TV, you take a nap from 8pm to midnight, and then you watch the award show live. Of course, you also Skype the kids and text them whenever the seriously lagging and buffering live stream will allow.  But you avoid reading their texts as soon as they pop up because you know the kids are knowing the names of the winners about 2 minutes before you do.

You consider giving Phil the Award for Most Entertaining Husband as he groans and curses every time the live stream stops and jitters just as they are about to announce a winner. It even causes him to say at one point that he could never live here if he can't see the Oscars. Later, when his head is clearer, he will adjust this to say that if he ever does live here, he will definitely be flying back to Canada at Oscar time.

But eventually you make it to almost 5 a.m. only to find out that the visually pretty, but sexually sophomoric The Shape of Water has won Best Picture (what the hell?). The only saving grace? By this time you're too tired to care.

Earlier that day...

Also need to capture in today's post that we also did a walk that was the reverse of last Sunday's walk to the Four Shires Stone. It's actually amazing how much you notice when you look at things from the other direction (maybe I need to watch The Shape of Water backwards).

It's also amazing the difference a day can make. The sun came out, the temperatures rose and the snow was soon melting. We even had to take our jackets off at one point in the walk. Spring is coming!!!
