Lady Jane Tanqueray of Alton Towers continued her visit with us into a rainy and somewhat bleak Saturday. Her escort, the world renowned English Cricketeer Lord Tanqueray of Alton Towers, was kind enough to do the driving as we set out to visit Broadway to do a little window shopping now that the Christmas season is coming upon us.

Lady Jane and Brother with Family Car? |
Broadway, as we mentioned in a previous post, is a lovely town that lies in the Vale of Evesham at the foot of the Cotswold Edge escarpment. As we drove down of the escarpment, childhood memories flooded back into Lady Jane's thoughts; memories of family drives back to Worcester to visit relatives at a time when only the A44 was the way to get there (no high speed motorways or M roads as they are called). Only leisurely drives through the towns and villages of the Cotswolds. In her reminiscence, one could almost see a tear forming, or was that just her cold?
Of course, Lady Jane and Angela have experienced

both Broadways together; the one we were visiting today and the other one.....let me think now, oh yes.....the one in Manhattan. The stores in this Broadway were all decked out for the Christmas season, including the most visually surprising, Cotswold Trading. The dimensions of this store must have been 30 feet in width at the store front and 200 feet to the back. As one can find almost everything for home and garden, browsing was a must ... and given the fact that the rain was now coming down steadily it was a welcome sanctuary. The store has been around for the past 20 years and has become somewhat iconic for the town. It is not the only store, and we found ourselves winding in and through various mews style stores set back from the High Street as well as unique shops that take full advantage of the old architecture, such as the Broadway Deli. Even Lord Tanqueray, whose sophistication in all things
drinkable and edible, was astounded by the selection of products.
Although it rained the entire day, we enjoyed having them visit us and we made plans to meet when we were in Winchester next week. After some kisses and hugs, we watched the Lord and Lady drive away and settled into our flat as the rain continued for the day. Time for a cuppa and an old movie on the telly.
